Goal of the LICREAT project

Best practices sharing, improved irrigation method, effective digitalized information flow and adaptive cropping pattern impact environment where farmer’ resilience to climate change sustained.

Objectives

  • To share the best practices of WEAP project to new 300 farmers for promoting them to follow the low-cost and less underground water requiring irrigation method and technique;
  • To introduce LICREAT techniques through capacity development and information sharing of the target farmers focusing on less water irrigation , climate friendly and cost-effective agricultural practices,
  • Introduce digital platform for delivering timely and much needed data & information (Both SMS and Post) in regard to farmers’ friendly agriculture and cropping pattern alongside weather & climate forecast.

Outputs

  • Target farmers and stakeholders are organized, informed and the primary data is generated by the baseline;
  • Capacity of target farmers on climate adaptive agricultural farming and less-water irrigation practices (method and techniques) are improved, reinforced, and enhanced for climate actions ;
  • Improved less-water irrigation method, AWD techniques/tools installed/introduced, technology of underground pipe irrigation method and effectively practicing by the target farmers;
  • Farmers being economically benefitted because of facing less weather challenges and practicing climate resilient and environment friendly agriculture practice through effective using of digital platform.

Activity Plan (First year)

  • 1-1. Re-organizing and forming farmers' groups (1) Village group (40), Total Farmers : 500 (2) Union Group (4), Sundarpur-Durgapur, Niamatpur, Kola & Jamal UP
  • 1-2 Informing beneficiaries, stakeholder- network partners and media people through inception meeting and base line survey.
  • 1-3 Bi- monthly meeting with Village Group and quarterly with Union Farmers Federation (UFF)

Output

  • 1. 20 (Village level) and 2 (Union level) farmers' groups are reformed and 20 groups (Village level) and 2 groups (Union level) newly formed;
  • 1-2. Wider stakeholders are informed about the project and ground data of the project. Cooperation and current information sharing from respective government departments strengthened in compliance with Right to Info (RTI);
  • 1-3. Local farming practices (including crop varieties), environmental impact on agricultural yields and balance, newly introduced varieties and cropping pattern, etc., before implementation is transcribed in Bengali and sharing step by step;
